The Sims 4 Babies Guide
Create A Sim is the game mode to create your Sims from the ground up. Everything about them—their age, their name, their physical appearance and clothes—can be freely altered here! The decisions are not entirely cosmetic, as you'll also choose Traits for your Sims which will affect their goals in life and behaviors. For specific information about creating pets if you have the Cats and Dogs Expansion Pack installed, please see the Create a Pet page.
Creating a Sim is much more advanced than before! Before you just had the basics, now you have many more options to create the Sim to look excatly like you choose. Now you can manipulate any body part including the abdomen, chest, legs, arms, and feet.
Each Sim is also able to have more wardrobes per category; everyday wear, formal wear, sleepwear, and athletic wear.
For the purposes of this guide, we'll be following the life of one Christine National, a distant cousin of Kelly National, whose life we previously saw at IGN Entertainment many years ago. Before we can jump into Christine's life, we need to create her. The first page of Create A Sim is the Sim's absolute essentials. In a free update, EA added the ability to change any of these options except Trait selection during normal gameplay without cheating , so don't worry if you want to change something later.
Below that are symbols that serve as buttons to change the Sims. Going clockwise from the top-left, you will set the Sim's gender, starting age, voice sound and pitch, and default walking style. The walking style will change often during gameplay due to the Sim's varying Emotions , so don't take that one too seriously.
The age is important however, as all families need at least one Sim who is a Teenager or older. Below that bar is your Sim's Aspiration and Traits panel.
You can click the large? Then, you will be allowed to choose three more traits no more and no fewer , which will affect the Sim's bonuses and AI behavior. Please read the Aspirations and Traits pages for more details. As you can see below, Christine National here is taking the The Curator aspiration, along with the Geek, Materialistic, and Outgoing traits.
Once you're in the game proper, the Sim's aspiration can be changed at will. However, the aspiration goes through various levels of achievement, and changing it will reset the Sim's progress through the aspiration. Also, the special trait that is attached to the aspiration will be lost and replaced, for better or worse.
Think carefully about your goal for your Sim so you choose an aspiration that matches your play style. The second step of creating a Sim is their physical appearance. This interface is quite a bit different from previous iterations of the franchise. In order to change any part of the body, click that part of the body, then drag the exact part you want to change.
The interface comes with several templates that we can choose from first. Double-clicking the Sim's face will bring up the template, which also allows us to change Christine's skin tone. We use a template, but wish for Christine to have higher cheek bones. We click her face, then click-drag her cheeks slightly upward.
Buttons appear along the right side of her, and through here we can adjust her hair, makeup, hats, and facial accessories such as glasses. Note that The Sims 4 no longer features specific, customized colors; you much choose from among the colors available, meaning 18 colors of hair and only a few colors for makeup depending on the exact style you wish to apply. Next we can adjust her body.
Again, there are sliders along the left side of her where we can set general fitness, specifically body roundness and muscle definition. However, we can still grab parts of the model and stretch them to create a Sim who looks exactly how we wish. Because clothes can be bulky now, you may wish to strip down a Sim to their underwear before making any specific detailed changes. You can think of this body altering as a light version of bone structure.
Christine here has wide hips and round buttocks compared to the default model. If she loses weight in the game through exercising, those features may be less prominent. However, if she gains the weight back, she'll gain it there first.
If she gains more weight than she starts with, those areas will match it first. In other words, no matter how much your Sim's weight fluctuates during the game, they will generally be in proportion to how you set them here. Buttons also appear on the right side allowing you to change the Sim's outfits. The buttons across the top of the clothing choosers indicate what situation the outfit is for: Everyday, Formal, Athletic, Sleepwear, and Party.
While playing, you can order your Sim to change clothes any time; the exception is your Sim's job clothes, which are set and unchangable. If you choose, you can create multiple outfits for a particular category. Christine here has two outfits for everyday attire. Note that you can freely change, delete, or create new outfits once the game is started, assuming you have a dresser. As with the hair and makeup, clothing choices are much more limited in Sims 4 compared to Sims 3. You cannot use any customized patterns, and any color changes must be chosen from among the colors that come with particular clothes.
However, you can search for specific types of clothing using the little left-pointing arrow underneath the clothing category. In this screen, we see Christine using the filters to shop for a black-colored bottom for her party attire. Once you finish choosing your Sim's clothing, you're done! This is your last chance to change any traits, body options, face options, or anything else.
It's immediately to the right of Christine's picture in the above screenshot. After you make all your Sims, you'll be able to set their relationships to each other, and Sims who start off related also start off with bonuses to their relationship scores.
Christine is moving in alone however, so we now click the large checkmark button in the bottom-right corner to advance. In the next screen, we can add a description for Christine in particular or the family in general, choose screenshots, and even upload the Sim so others can download it.
Christine herself is available to download too! Because Christine is our first Sim, we are now taken to the map screen. You can choose any world via the buttons in the top-left corner, but your Sims can freely interact with and move between both of them, so you are not limited to one.
Christine enjoys greener pastures, so she elects to live in Willow Creek. She could also buy an empty lot if she wanted to make her own, but she's not ready for that yet. Instead, she chooses the Streamlet Single lot. After one more confirmation dialogue, Christine moves into her new home, ready to start her life and seek adventures!
In a free update, EA patched in the ability to use almost the full suite of tools in Create a Sim during normal play without the use of cheats.
Prior to the update, having an adult Sim use the "Change Appearance" interaction with a mirror took you to Create a Sim but only allowed minor changes such as hair color and makeup. Now, the command at the mirror has been renamed to "Change Sim" and allows the full suite of options except the ability to change the Sim's Traits. Their voices, names, walk cycles, body proportions, and even genders can be changed, however. Please see the cheat pages for more information.
The Sims 4 Wiki Guide. Last Edited: 27 Jun pm. Note [ edit ] In a free update, EA added transgender options to your Sims.
